Searching by indication

Please note: this stage does not appear in an in-order launch, when Touchdose is launched in the context of a medication.

List of indications with corresponding medications

When utilising this search flow, every indication will be linked to a specific medication that can be used to treat that indication. The pairs of indications and medications will be presented in a table format alongside their respective sources. A single indication may be addressed by several medications, and each combination of indication and medication will be displayed as a distinct entity in a separate row within the table. When you opt for an indication, you are concurrently selecting the corresponding medication intended for treating that specific indication. Searching for an indication

To reveal a list of indications, a clinician must initiate a search for the specific indication they aim to address by inputting a minimum of three characters into the search bar.

Located at the top right beneath the patient header, the search bar serves this purpose. The search string exclusively scans indications and does not extend to medications or sources. It is not mandatory for the string to align with the beginning of the indication; it can encompass any consecutive part. For instance, inputting "headache" will yield "Prevention of cluster headache" as a potential option.

The exhibited list of indications is shaped by the known patient inputs and the characters the clinician has entered in their search. Only indications included in the underlying formulary will be presented.

Doseless indications

Some indications cannot be selected, known as doseless indications; see Doseless indications in Selecting an indication for more information, including why they exist and how they appear in the system.

Sources

Each medication and indication pair will have one associated source. In most instances, the source will have an associated URL that links to the source content. If the clinician clicks on a linked source, Touchdose will open the URL in a web browser.

Sources have a link out icon if there is an associated URL.

Commonly used indications

When commonly used indications have been configured, they will be clearly marked and prioritised to the top of the list.

Tags

Tags can be used to add additional information to medications and indications. Every tag returned for this screen is displayed. Tags that apply to the medication are shown next to the medication name — for example flagging a controlled drug or a prescribing restriction — and tags that apply to a particular indication are shown alongside that indication, next to the source, for example indicating the recommended line of therapy or relevant guidance.

If a tag includes additional detail, clicking on it will display that information. In some cases, this view may also include a link to further information; if so, a button will be shown that allows you to open the link in a new tab.

In other scenarios, a tag may contain only a link and no additional detail. In this case, clicking the tag will immediately open the external URL, and an icon will indicate that it will take you outside the system.

Finally, if a tag has no additional detail and no associated link, it will be displayed as a non-clickable label.
